A Guide To Healthy Living

Thursday, July 29th, 2010

In ancient times, people lived in a struggle to survive everyday. There was nothing to make life easier—no technology, no tools, just instinct. There was also little to protect them from diseases—no medicine, no hospitals, just instinct, once again. Today, there are already technologies that make life easier, medical supplies to cure all types of pain and ease every little discomfort you may feel. But, many are still unhealthy and many still suffer from diseases. Healthy living is still elusive.

One problem is that there are already too much at present such that most people no longer have to exert efforts to do their daily tasks. There are more cars, for instance, so many individuals seldom walk long distances anymore. Whereas the problem in the past was lack, the problem in the present is over-abundance. Whereas people die of lack in the past (think of malnutrition and famine), many people today die of hypertension and heart problems associated with excess (think of foods excessive in fats and cholesterol).

The Components of Good Health

Many people are in a search of a healthy living, but what is really the component of good health? How do you achieve overall well-being and a healthy life? When you closely look at the concept of health, you will find out that it all boils down to the following three concepts:

•    Proper Nutrients. Whereas you will already find a lot of health pills, diet capsules, and all other artificial medicines formulated to promote health today, it’s important to know that the best means to getting healthy is still the basic—fresh fruits and fresh vegetables and natural foods rich in vitamins and minerals. No health pills can ever be better than these.
•    Balance. Another key to getting healthy is a balanced lifestyle. It’s not all about food, nor is it all about exercise. It’s a balance of both. Include fruits and vegetables in all your meals, plus meat and fish every now and then. Get your daily dose of protein, iron, zinc, and other vitamins. Exercise regularly. You don’t even need to go to the gym to do this—doing your household chores and going on daily walks is already a form of exercise.
•    Proper pace. Being healthy is not all about getting exercise as often as you can or eating as much nutritious food as you can handle. You can’t force it to happen at once. The proper step toward good health is one of consistency and steadiness—just the right amount of food and exercise regularly. It takes a lot of discipline to maintain a consistent routine and a great patience to wait for the result. But at the right pace, you’ll surely arrive at your destination more fulfilled.

By keeping these three components in mind and by making them your starting guide, it would be easy to find the right direction toward good health. And when you finally achieve a healthy living, you’ll realize that the benefits are all worth your effort and time.

Can Diet Pills Kill You?

Thursday, July 22nd, 2010

Many diet pills are marketed as being some kind of miracle cure for weight loss, and often claim amazing results. All of us have at some point been told that we should not believe everything that we read. This rule should apply just as much to the sales hype that comes with diet pills. The main question that regularly crops up is, do diet pills work and what sort of side affects may materialise?

One particular diet pill that was available a few years ago contained an ingredient called ephedra. This pill did actually help people to lose weight. It did this by speeding up your metabolism and in the process increasing your heart rate. Ephedra is a close relation to adrenalin. Adrenalin is released naturally by your body at times of high stress or life threatening situations. This puts your body on a level of high alert where everything is speeded up to cope with the situation. People who took ephedra found their bodies to be on a level of high alert for long periods of time. This caused some people to suffer from heart attacks and sudden death. For obvious reasons it was removed from the market.

Some diet pills can be described as fat blockers. These remove fat from the intestines and don’t allow your body to process fats in a natural way. This can cause serious side affects which outweigh any benefits that you may gain. If your body is not allowed to process fat then it will not be able to absorb certain necessary vitamins such as A, D, E, and K. other sides affects can include oily skin, acne, headaches, incontinence, and nausea.

Many diet pills available today are appetite suppressors. These basically tell your nervous system that you are full when you are not. This means that you will consume fewer calories. Initially this would seem like an ideal situation if you are trying to lose weight. However after some weight loss in the first couple of weeks, many people will find that they stop getting results. When your metabolism doesn’t receive enough calories it begins to slow down. This means less calories are been burnt, leading to less, or if any weight loss.

Many appetite suppressants work by artificially speeding up your body which can raise your heart rate and your blood pressure. This can increase the risks of having a stroke or a heart attack. The risk is increased more significantly in people who already have high blood pressure or heart problems that they may or may not know about. Apart from the risk of potential death, other side affects can include nausea, headaches, hyperactivity, digestive problems, and insomnia.

The most common diet pills contain phentermine, ionamin and adipex. You should think long and hard before deciding if you are going to take diet pills. You will need to evaluate whether the side affects will outweigh the benefits. Your decision should also be based on information and advice from your doctor. In the end if you decide to take this route, then make sure you follow the instructions to the letter, and don’t think that over using diet pills will lead to any greater efficiency. If anything it will probably increase the chance of serious sides affects.

Always remember that using diet pills alone is never going to help you reach your weight loss goals. Weight loss is achieved through a number of factors which will include an exercise programme, a healthy diet, how often you eat, and adding more activity into your life. Diet pills are a long way from being a miracle cure regardless of how cleverly they are marketed. They can have a role to play when it comes to losing weight, but will they be beneficial to everyone? The answer to that is a definite no. losing weight is not something that you will find in a bottle. It takes time and it takes work, there really is no other way around it. The sooner people can learn to accept this, the sooner their approach to weight loss will begin to reap better and longer lasting results. Long term weight loss will come with time and effort and not from some miraculous diet pill. Can Diet Pills kill you? It depends on your circumstances; if you fit the right criteria then diet pills could potentially kill you.

Healthy Living is the Best Diet

Friday, July 16th, 2010

In a world of pills, powders, and programs there is still one fact about dieting that can’t be ignored. A healthy lifestyle is the key to a healthy weight. Infomercials would have you believe that a diet plan or supplement is the only way to lose weight. The truth is that millions of people all over the world control their weight simply by living a healthy and active lifestyle.

Healthy living starts with healthy eating. In order to eat healthy you need to understand what the body needs in a day. You should have at least 2 servings of meat and dairy products, and 5-8 servings of fruits and vegetables as well as grains. You should also drink a minimum of 8 glasses of water every day. These are the body’s needs in order to function properly each day. Notice there is no mention of fats or sugars as we have no need to intake these daily. Grains are considered to be complex carbohydrates that provide long lasting energy. Taking this into account in your lifestyle will help you make better choices when it comes to what you eat daily.

Eating right is only the first step to a healthy lifestyle. The second and arguably harder step is being active. The reason most people give for not exercising is that they do not have the time. There is no reason why you cannot make the choice to walk instead of drive, take the stairs instead of the elevator, or do something active in the evening instead of watching television. Exercising promotes blood flow and helps concentration for hours after the workout. If you can find ways to be active and eat right you are well on your way to a healthy lifestyle and a healthy weight.

The last step to healthy living is actually the easiest! The final key to living a healthy life is to enjoy it. Don’t get caught up in a regime of exercising and eating that doesn’t make you happy. Find the foods that you enjoy and the activities that you like and explore them. Have fun being healthy and you will find that it is no longer a chore, but an adventure.

If you can master these simple keys to living a healthy lifestyle, you will find that your perfect weight is not only attainable – it’s sustainable. You can lose weight, live right, and have fun all at the same time.
